Adobe Buys Macromedia

This just in! Adobe’s $3.4 billion bid for Macromedia has just been approved by the executives of both companies. This is major news for anyone in the graphic design or web development industry. “The combination of Adobe and Macromedia strengthens our mission of helping people and organizations communicate better. Through the combination of our powerful development, authoring and collaboration tools – and the complementary functionality of PDF and Flash – we have the opportunity to drive an industry-defining technology platform that delivers compelling, rich content and applications across a wide range of devices and operating systems.”

  1. I like both companies. I hope the acquisition only changes the financial structure of two companies but leaves the software as it is.

    P.S: I think it’s $3.4 billion =)

  2. Heh, good catch. I meant $3.4 billion, but it was 6 in the morning when I wrote that. I certainly hope that Abode doesn’t do anything crazy, like replace Dreamweaver with GoLive.

  3. Yeah I was also wondering about what they’re gonna do with Dreamweaver and GoLive. I’ve never used GoLive before so I don’t know how it is compared to Dreamweaver. But I think if they were go eliminate one product, it will definitely be GoLive. Doesn’t Dreamweaver have a 80% market share ot something like that?

  4. Yes, Dreamweaver has a higher market share, and GoLive is an inferior product. As a side note, a good number of installation issues for WordPress v1.2.x were related to uploading the files via GoLive’s file manager.
