The Eternal Question: DivX or 3ivx?

This is the eternal question, and for some reason it has been bothering me for a few weeks. Since both seem to be equally featured, I’d love to see what the pros and main-stream users have to say. Which is better, DivX or 3ivx? You decide.

  1. Neither. Xvid is superior to both, and it’s open source. 🙂

  2. Very good point, I completely forgot about that one. Installing the 3ivx plugin for QuickTime does allow the decoding for Xvid files, but only exports in the 3ivx format. However, there are other alternatives for Mac users, such as D-Vision ( http://www.objectifmac.com/english/actu.php ). Of course, if you don’t care for exporting from or viewing in QuickTime, you could always use MPlayer ( http://mplayerosx.sourceforge.net/ ).

  3. P.S. Thanks for getting my comment moderation notice working!
