Favored Freeware: RSSOwl

RSSOwl lets you gather, organize, update, and store information from any RSS or Atom source in a convenient, easy to use interface, save selected information in various formats for offline viewing and sharing, and much more. It’s easy to configure, available in many many languages and the best of all: It’s platform-independent.

Pros: RSSOwl is easy to use and packed full of features. RSSOwl is a cross-platform application for Mac, Windows, Linux, and Solaris.

Cons: Since RSSOwl is Java-based, which is exactly what makes it “platform-independent”, RSSOwl can tend to be a little bit slower than most platform-specific news readers like Vienna.
